Life on Mars

 1) How does the sound help establish the setting and time period? In the extract, the sound used helps establish a time period of the 1970's. This is because the show is meant to replicate a police drama in the 70's. Meaning that some aspects of mise-en-scene such as costume, setting and, actors have to be as accurate as possible to that time period. 2) Note the use of diegetic and non-diegetic sound in the clip. Diegetic - . Shouting/screaming- the extract shows 2 cars driving on a football pitch while a game is playing. This means that the players would shout in panic trying to avoid the cars. . Tires screeching- At the beginning of the extract, a car is shown in the middle of the city chasing another car. This means that the other car will move in random places trying to lose the car chasing them creating the sound. . Dialogue- As the two cars are in a chase, the police characters in the scene talk to each other in a  stereotypical British tone. Non-diegetic - . Music- ...

Sound Video practical and Analysis

Image
Analysis: The song played in the video represents grief, paranoia and internal conflict. In the first half, we used images that would make the song look parallel to the images themselves. For the second, we found images that are the opposite of the overall meaning of the song in order to make the song look contrapuntal.
